Reaching Out & Useful Links

The Minster adopted the following five priorities for the period 2005 – 2015

To uphold The Minster’s long tradition of teaching and preaching The Gospel; to remain rooted in a life of prayer ; to ensure that worship continues to be inspiring, varied and accessible to all; to maintain The Minster’s music ministry; to nurture the people of God in their Christian pilgrimage.

To ensure that our building is restored and re-ordered as a tool for Mission and Outreach, and thereby provide a strong base from which to serve the needs of our community.

To “grow” the Church Family, with a particular emphasis on Young People and Young Families.

To promote Christian fellowship and all that seeks to build up our “common life”; to offer practical and prayerful support to all those in physical & emotional need.

And in all things…

And So?

Arising out of these priorities: the life of the Minster is both varied and challenging, involving over £150,000 worth of volunteer labour per annum. We welcome and work with those of any faith and those of none. Among others, these are some of the activities and groups we organise and/or support:

  • The RefectoryMinistry to the local community, its agencies, tourists, historians and to all who enter, including spiritual and practical support for vulnerable adults, the frail and the elderly.
  • Many of those who enter just want to sit in one of our quiet places, or have a bite to eat or a drink in the Refectory.
  • At the time of writing 70 needy per week and rising, benefit from our Ministry of Hospitality. They are given something to eat and drink and a listening ear, low level counselling and sign posting. Churches Together in Dewsbury and other agencies are now involved.
  • The Minster recognises the importance of its partnership links with, among others: The Town Centre Management, The Area Committee, Kirklees Metropolitan Council and Kirklees Community History Service. We aim to be real ‘Team Players’ in the life of North Kirklees. The Minster conference and room hire facilities  with optional catering are a valued resource.
  • Our Mission involves frequent quality social events.
  • Many schools visit here from across the region as part of Interfaith Kirklees. Find out more about The Minster’s role in Interfaith Kirklees.

If you would like to join our volunteers please contact the Rector, Simon Cash.

Cleaning and building maintenance are vital areas of service. Without a well-ordered building our work in the community will deteriorate.

We try to ensure that church members with a good knowledge of who and what makes this church tick, run the Reception Desk. They do however need company at times, and we need others to be trained to ease the load. So if you are wondering about this ministry, why not ask to sit alongside us, to share and observe?
