Sponsor A Chair
The Dewsbury Minster Worship Area Chair Appeal
Beautiful ash chairs are now being purchased
from ‘Irish Seating’. Their quality wood harmonizes
with the panelling around the Paulinus Chapel and a ‘wheeled’ Paulinus
Cross is etched into their backs, reminding us that Christians
have worshipped here for 1400 years; that worship continues here
today and will do so through future generations.
The chairs are designed to appeal to, and to invite all who
might chance by, to sit for a while and enjoy a moment’s
peace, perhaps receiving, reviving or strengthening their faith.
Comfortable for worshippers, they will encourage meaningful seating
arrangements to enhance our varied devotions. They will also be
worthy of, and practical for our many cultural functions.
These sturdy, upholstered, padded seats have book and kneeler
rests. They can be stacked and 10% of them have armrests. They
are being purchased in lots as funds allow.
In line with good quality, made to last, modern furniture, each
chair will cost about £170. Our congregation has already
given sacrificially to transform our dingy, cold and dilapidated
worship area. However, the provision of chairs is an additional
cost for which we need a special appeal.
We are arranging a book of donations to record, in elegant calligraphy,
each known gifting of chairs for the enhancement of worship in
the Minster. Plaques have been ruled out to eliminate the temptation
to search for and use one’s ‘own’ chair. This
is contrary to the Christian ideal of unreserved hospitality to
friend and stranger alike.
Please send your donations to the
Rector and if you are
a tax payer please consider Gift Aiding.
